Cloth Seal, Dyer's Two-Part Seal, M, Image & Found by John Shooter.
Found in Nottinghamshire, 24mm.
M (possibly ligatured to a preceding letter) on a tree background // II above a madderbag
A two disc dyer's cloth seal. The madderbag usually denotes affiliation to the London Dyers' Company. The II above the bag is believed to denote the number of passes through the dye vat. The tree may be a representation of the grain tree thought to provide red dye.
