Russian Bale Seal, Baltic States, Flax, NP, 1825, Image & Found by PhilD.
Found in Spittal, East Yorkshire, 23mm.
From Ged Dodd, "ЛД = LD .... {Я.Д.}CAHИHЬ ...H10 .. NP .. {ER}12H .. 1825
A very distorted seal but that is what it should be ....
Flax inspector Ya.D.SANIN working out of 10 post on the Baltic Sea coast in the port of St Petersburg, Narva, Memel, Libau, Reval or Riga in 1825.
The Grower/Owner/Agent initials are ER and there were 12 flax plants in the bale.
The seal appears to read OSANIN .. no such animal .. we have ASANIN in various forms but there is no doubt that they are all A's .. not O ..
... The seal is at IDS 663 on here:- The PeaceHavens Project, Seal Numbers 601 - 700."
