Russian, Kronshtat the Port of St.Petersburg
Russian, Kronshtat the Port of St.Petersburg Seal, Image & Found by Simon Bourne.
Found on the Thames Foreshore, 23mm.
Crossed anchors with Cyrillic writing around // blank
A seal of Kronshtat the Port of St.Petersburg. See St. Petersburg Arms Seal for a seal with a similar layout.
Identified by Ged Dodd, "There was a shallow 8-9 foot depth barrier on the Neva river up to St Petersburg so large vessels were loaded and unloaded at Kronstadt (St Petersburg Port) and then shipped up the river on a light draught barge. This is the first seal actually defining Kronshtat,(KPOHШTAT) the Port of St.Petersburg .. the letters within the anchors XШT probably denote a Kronshtat customs Tax. There looks to be a date 18??"
