Cloth Seal, German, Tangermünde, Image & Found by Kenneth Olsen.
Found in Vestfold, Norway, ?mm.
Eagles head facing left, inscription around // rose
Tangermünde is a historic town on the Elbe River in the district of Stendal, in the northeastern part of Saxony-Anhalt.
Cloth seals from this region often show only the crude head of an eagle rather than the full eagle displayed with a rose in each wing of the town's arms. See Oostveen Textiel Loden 1600-1625 catalogue no. 32-36.
This find along with BSG.CS.01327 and BSG.CS.01328 suggest that Vestfold, Norway was a buyer of diverse German manufactured cloth.
