The shield bears the arms of House of Savoy. In the 185-s, several states change their arms for the Savoy's ones. See TimbresMag, Further south, Garibaldi lands in Sicily and conquers the Kingdom of Naples. Here too, special stamps were issued during the period of “Luogotenenza”, Garibaldi’s Lieutenance General over the former Bourbon-Parma Kingdom. The Cross of Savoy succeeds the Trinacria and the first effigies of Victor-Emmanuel appear on the arid Sicily to dethrone the king «Bomba» (Ferdinand II)."
