Cloth Seal, Leeds, Fleece, Image by StuE, Unknown Finder.
Found in England, 23mm, 9.5g.
Two disc seal with little more than the rivet remaining on one side showing a fleece suspended and sections of ornate border. The other side has 40 scratched in angular figures (the 0 being a square on one edge) and the base of the rivet showing as a circle.
The suspended sheep or ram represents a wool fleece which is part of the coat of arms of Leeds City. This is also found on cloth seals from Ghent but the ram shown on this seal looks a better match to that shown on other Leeds seals.
