Žilina is a village and municipality in Kladno District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic.
From Paul Cannon, "I believe that ‘ŽILINA SUKENNA.TOVARNA.’ translates as Žilina Cloth/Textile Factory. The factory began operating in 1891 and “it immediately became the biggest factory of its kind in Slovakia and later in the whole of Hungary”. It was built by Karol Lőv. Lőv established his textile firm at Žilina for a number of reasons including 1)”the town would exempt him and all his employees from taxes for 15 years”; 2) Žilina was chosen for its exceptionally good traffic conditions and enough cheap labour since there were almost no labour opportunities in the neighbourhood; 3)there were large supplies of sheep wool to be processed in the area & 5)”the Hungarian government provided very suitable conditions for the establishing of the factory. Lőv got the plot for the factory free of charge and 10,000 crowns as a grant to export the goods abroad and favourable railway transport tariffs”. In 1891 800 people were employed in the factory and by 1904 there were 1,132 employees. The products, which included “horse blankets, flannel blankets, simple thick cloth for military uniforms and fine cloths” (for clothing) were widely exported and “in 1899 export to England started to develop”. The source of the summary above is the official tourist portal of Žilina, which contains more detailed history."
