Lion left paw on arms of Leiden // fleece suspended
A late 16th to 17th century Leiden cloth seal. The suspended sheep represents a woollen fleece signifying the woollen cloth trade. These are also found on other seals such as Ghent and Leeds.
For another Leiden cloth seal with an identical fleece but a pair of lions with intertwinned tails on the other side, see Fig.90, p.55, Oostveen, J. van, 2017, Textielloden uit de bodem van Rotterdam.
