Cloth Seal, Suffolk, Alnage, Windmill, Harp
Cloth Seal, Suffolk, Alnage, Windmill, Harp, Image & Found by Guy Phillips.
Found on the Thames Foreshore, 13mm.
Blank // annulet / pellet / .H., CO (SVFOLK) around // harp (crowned?) // Windmill, (A) D to sides
This seal appears to be a parallel to BSG.CS.00380 and has been very useful in establishing details of both, allowing the Suffolk attribution here.
See Egan, G., 1987, seals 4115 & 2360D, p.221. These have a windmill on the fourth disc but the H on these seals is incorporated into different alnager initials.
The H is probably the alnager's mark and the windmill and AD are ascribed as a searcher's stamp by Egan.
