..AUSSA(L)T / ET / COMP. // fleur-de-lis, ...ANGER around
Identified by Philippe Lanez - I.L.JAUSSAUD ET COMP - on the other side and we can read (ETR)ANGER probably from the expression POUR L'ETRANGER, which means all parts of the Kingdom not included in the 5 Grosses Fermes for not having accepted the 1664 tariff.
The fleur-de-lis was a symbol for the reformed merchants, from the name of a street (Rue de la Madeleine nowadays)-in 1561 it was narrower, more sinuous and bore several names, from sections to sections, from the Porte de la Madeleine to the Place de l'Horloge. The part that interests us, located between Boulevard Victor Hugo and Rue Fresque names of Rue Na Buade, then Rue de la colonne de Buade. Its facade alignments have been modified but its layout remains essentially the same. In the 18th century, during Mr Ménard’s time, the nîmois named it: Rue de la Fleur-de-lis. Although Léon Ménard did not mention his name in 1753, historians agree that the Founding meeting of the Consistory of Nîmes took place at a private house on Rue de la Madeleine. At the time, for security reasons, the assemblies were held each time, by neighbourhood, in different places and supervised by the co-religionists of neighbouring neighbourhood's. Moreover, the North area of the street is well identified by the compoix and cadastres; the southern zone is much more obscure.
See BSG.CS.01191 for another seal from the same merchants.
