Cloth Seal, Alnage, Lion Rampant, Image & Found by London Mudlark.
Found on the Thames foreshore
One inner and rove disc from a four disc cloth seal possibly showing lion rampant in double treasure in a lozenge border.
Although not clear the markings appear to be the arms of Scotland.
See No.195, Fig.28, Egan, G., 1994, Lead Cloth Seals and Related Items in the British Museum, B.M.occ.papers 93, 1995, "Probably not a specifically Scottish seal". The seal quoted by Egan has an alnage/subsidy figure of 3 1/2 shown on it which he suggest may date it to 1691/2 as that was the alnage rate for short bays in that year.
