Privy mark incorporating P L in a heart // IIII over unknown design and a madderbag (both very faint), LONDLL STALL around
A seal has been published with III over a madderbag and the inscription LONDON STALL [Egan, G., 1992, Leaden Cloth Seals, Datasheet 3, Finds Research Group 700-1700, p.4, Fig.20]. It states that the numbers over the madderbag probably indicate the number of successive washes in woad for blue cloths.
It is not known why the ON has been replaced with LL or possibly IL in London (the D is uncertain).
The find spot is evidence of London's cloth trade with Portugal.
