Cloth Seal, Dutch, Various Seals found in Manhattan
Cloth Seals, Dutch, Various Seals found in Manhattan, Image & Found by Manny Birittieri.
The seals were dug from 2 sites Pearl & Water Street and John & Water Street, Manhattan, USA.
Although a Dutch customs seal and an Augsburg fustian seal can be made out, most of the remainder appear to be Dutch cloth seals indicating significant imports of cloth from Europe. The location is not on the southern tip of Manhattan Island where New Amsterdam was sited but just across the water in what is now called Brooklyn.
In the middle of the bottom row of three is an interesting tubular cloth seal that appears to show the a ship of the cog variety associated with the Walloon weavers.
