Founded originally by Heinrich Ohlendorff as Ohlendorff & Co in 1858 after the first world economic crisis forced older brother Albertus Ohlendorff’s original guano business into bankruptcy in 1857. It was transformed into the Anglo Continental corporation in 1883 with locations in London, Hamburg, Antwerp, and Emmerich-on-Rhine. It remained a German company until the First World War, when it was reconstituted under British control. It was taken over in 1937 by Fisons Ltd. and closed in 1946.
