BSG.BS.01397 — MCP, Mann, Crossman & Paulin Ltd Seal

MCP, Mann, Crossman & Paulin Ltd Seal, Image & Found by Dave Pamment.

Found near Bishps Stortford, 19mm.

Mounted horseman spearing a dragon // M. C. P.

A bag seal showing the distinctive George & the dragon emblem and the initials M.C.P. No product company or organisation has yet been connected to this seal with certainty, however the trade mark of Marstons PLC is an excellent match.

See UKDFD : 20794 for another example.

From Paul Cannon, "I wonder if this stands for Mann, Crossman & Paulin Ltd? The St George slaying the dragon logo was used by this company at the Albion Brewery, Whitechapel, London see The Brewery History Society. For a group of beer bottle labels containing the name and logo see The Labologist's Society, International Society of Label Collectors & British Brewery Research. If this is the correct id of the seals, I wonder if they were attached to barrels of beer?"
