BSG.BS.02196 — Cross Pattée in Raised Circle Bag Seal

The Cross Pattée or splayed cross has been used for many purposes. The Hospitaller's Cross (Cross as used by the Order of St John in the 1200s) gave rise to the red Knights Templar's cross, which in turn gave rise to the Maltese Cross. But it is perhaps most famous in modern times as being the basis for the German Iron Cross.

No product, company or organisation has yet been connected to this seal.

The cross may represent windmill sails as in BSG.BS.01759 suggesting it is a flour bag seal.

Another of these seals has been found by Richard Tordoff 15 miles North of Newcastle and further one was found by Chris Morl in the north east England.
