BSG.CS.00589 — Cloth Seal, Cloth Worker's Personal Seal, Privy Mark, I H S, 1500~1800

Cloth Seal, Cloth Workers Privy Mark, I H S, Image & Found by Folkert.

Found in Germany.

17th/18th Century I'd say - ecclesiastical cloth perhaps? (Flintmeister UKDN).

See Nos.229 & 230, Fig.31, Geoff Egan, 'Lead cloth seals and related items in the B.M. (B.M. Occasional Paper 93)' - Clothiers', weavers' & searchers' seals with privy marks. Also note the 'anchor' like aspects of the frame on which the ligature hangs. IHS was also a common Christogram based on the first three letters of "Jesus" in Greek (Ίησους, Latinized IHSOVS); also referring to the In hoc signo vinces legend hence it its possible religious connection.
