BSG.CS.02085 — Cloth Seal, Charles II Type Head, Alnage
Cloth Seal, Charles II Type Head, Alnage, Image & Found by Daniil Galitski.
Found in the vicinity of Narva, Estonia, 18mm.
Blank (random impressions) // head facing right, OF ENG LAND around // 2 / crown // undeciphered mark
A four-disc alnage seal bearing a head of the type used on the cloth seals of Charles II, James II and William III, from 1660 to 1702. For a similar example, tentatively attributed to Charles II see BSG.CS.00967.
The 2 to the right of the top cross on the crown may represent the 2d. subsidy charge but the area left of the cross is corroded and could well have displayed a 1, as on other seals, meaning the alnage charge was a ha'penny - 1/2 penny.
