BSG.CS.02097 — Cloth Seal, French, Ganges, E. Bovgete Silk Seal

One-part cloth seal for silk.

5 pointed star, * GANGES * A around // fleur-de-lis, .E. BOVGETE around

From Daniel Slowik, "it's a seal from a 18th century Ganges silk weaver manufacturer. ... C'est E. BOVGETE. ... find in France Dt 34."

Ganges is a commune in the Hérault department in Languedoc-Roussillon in southern France. The arms of Ganges is a quartered shield with a lion rampant in each quadrant but here a simple star was probably chosen to make the die cutter's job easier.

Another of these seals was found by Bill Burns in the US in Virginia in August 2026.
