lozenge shaped // crown :CR: beneath, inscription around five petalled flower head ENGLAND.1682 // (SHME ligature) (1682?) above, 1 1/2 below // angular rove disc with loose fitting revet protruding

A complete four part Alnage seal from the reign of Charles II. Disc 2 has a Crown with :CR: beneath and EN[GLAN]D.168[2] curved around the inside of a continuous raised circular border. Disc 3 also has the remains of a continuous raised circular border in which the date [1682] is straight across the top above a ligature and the numerals .1 [1/2]. beneath, the amount of levy paid on the cloth. The ligature could be JSHME. Disc 1 is lozenge-shaped. (The above is with the help of a similar seal)

Oxford seals have been found with the same ligature that Egan interprets as "[?EHMS in alphabetical order]", Provenanced Leaden Cloth Seals by Geoffrey Egan, Sub-Department of Medieval Archaeology, University College, University of London. submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, 1987.
