Cloth Seal, German, Großhartmannsdorf

Cloth Seal, German, Großhartmannsdorf, Image & Found by John GM.
Found on the Thames foreshore, 16mm, 2.8g.

Cloth seal with three rows of raised lettering on one side possibly overlying a design (tree on a river bank?) The other (rivet) side has a definite design but it is not clear.

See MOL 90.342/1 The rivet disc from a two disc cloth seal stamped with GROS / HART / ANS / more letters? The rivet stub has the remains of a stamp showing a crested shield bearing a lion rampant.

See PAS SUR-CB68A6 where Egan suggests it might be from Nantes, France. This seal suggests the theory of the damaged R being an N is incorrect.

Identified by Michel Royer and Jan van Oostveen as being a German cloth seal from Großhartmannsdorf, "a municipality in the district of Mittelsachsen, in Saxony, Germany."

See (Keur)loden: Duitsland - Grosshartmannsdorf on Jan van Oostveen's website. He has identified the arms as being those of the Schönberg family.
